(AP) ? When Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes first got together, he jumped on a couch, she gushed girlishly, and many of their fans said, "Huh?"

Their split could cause just as much drama.

Not only are the images of two Hollywood stars at stake, so is the future of 6-year-old Suri, with some speculating that Holmes' decision to file for divorce in New York might mean she's seeking sole custody of their daughter.

Ultimately, Cruise may have the most to lose.

"There's no question this divorce is going to hurt his public image," said Dorie Clark, author of the forthcoming "Reinventing You: Define Your Brand, Imagine Your Future."

"His brand was already tarnished significantly when he first got together with Holmes five years ago and was infamously jumping up and down on Oprah's couch, and shortly afterward the videos of him praising Scientology were leaked," she continued. "This divorce is another opportunity for questions to be raised about his personal life, his religious beliefs ? which many consider outside the mainstream ? and that's not what a box-office star really wants."

California divorce attorney Michael Kelly, who is not involved with the Cruise-Holmes case, called Holmes' East Coast filing "a tactical move" that signifies "there will be an attempt to gain an advantage."

New York's comparative-fault divorce laws could be advantageous for Holmes, he said. The couple lived in Los Angeles.

Cruise and Holmes married in 2006 after a whirlwind love affair. He proposed at the Eiffel Tower. Their wedding was held at a 15th century Italian castle.

She filed for divorce Thursday, ending her first marriage. This will be Cruise's third divorce. He was previously married to actresses Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman, with whom he has two children.

Cruise showed up alone at the recent Los Angeles and London premieres of his latest film, "Rock of Ages." Holmes also was absent earlier this month when Cruise received the Friars Club Entertainment Icon Award in New York. But he did bring Suri with him, allowing her to stay up late for the raunchy proceedings.

"Divorce will actually help Katie Holmes' brand," Clark said. "More people are going to be thinking about her and aware of her. This is generating a lot of sympathy and interest from people."

Holmes, 33, rose to fame on the teen soap "Dawson's Creek." She went on to appear in "Batman Begins," and earned raves for her roles in independent films such as 2003's "Pieces of April" and 2005's "Thank You for Smoking." She took a break after giving birth to Suri in April, 2006, and marrying Cruise in November.

She did just a handful of roles until stepping things up in 2011. Holmes played Jackie" Kennedy in the Emmy-winning miniseries "The Kennedys," appeared in Adam Sandler's "Jack and Jill" and just wrapped a film with William Hurt. She said she's set to start another project in July.

Meanwhile, Cruise, who turns 50 on Tuesday, has remained a megastar. His latest role, as an Axl Rose-style rock star in "Rock of Ages," has won him strong reviews (though not corresponding box-office results), and his most recent "Mission Impossible" installment, "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol," has made more than $690 million worldwide.

"Tom Cruise's brand has always been the dynamic, likable hero ? the 'Mission Impossible' star that you're rooting for ? and it becomes harder for the public to get behind someone as a hero and want to go to the box office and cheer them on when there are serious questions about what kind of husband and father he is," Clark said.

Holmes' attorney, Jonathan Wolfe, said Friday that "Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest."

NY pols rip Egypt leader over vow to free terrorist

By NBCNewYork.com's Jonathan Dienst

New York political leaders are voicing outrage at Egypt?s next president after he promised to fight to free a terrorist linked to the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and a later plot to blow up New York City landmarks.

President-elect Mohammed Morsi told a crowd in Tahrir Square he wants convicted terrorist Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman released from a United States prison. ?I see signs for Omar Abdel Rahman and detainees pictures,? Morsi said.? ?It is my duty and I will make all efforts to have them free, including Omar Abdel Rahman.?

Rahman is serving a life sentence for his role in a plot to blow up the Holland and Lincoln Tunnels, the United Nations and other targets in the 1990s.? He has also been linked to the first World Trade Center bombing that killed six and injured more than a thousand.

New York politicians blasted Morsi?s comments Friday.

?President Morsi?s offensive statements are an insult to the memories of the victims of the World Trade Center bombing,? Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., said.? ?Sheik Rahman is a terrorist who planned to kill innocent Americans, rest assured he will stay right where he belongs -- in jail for the rest of his life.?

Egypt counts on billions of dollars in aid from the United States, and a State Department spokeswoman declined to comment on Morsi?s speech.

But Rep. Peter King, R-NY, who chairs the House Homeland Security Committee, called Morsi?s speech ?evidence that he is an Islamist and a radical who cannot be trusted.??

"This is a disgraceful way for him to start his presidency," King added.

Workers on Feb. 26, 1993, rebuild the parking garage destroyed when a van containing explosives was detonated by terrorists in beneath the World Trade Center complex, resulting in the death of six and injuries of over 1,000 others.

Tri-state leaders said Morsi?s comments are raising serious questions as to what kind of leader he will be.

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., called Morsi?s statement ??not only outrageous, but it is cause for deep concern about Mohammed Morsi?s respect for the rule of law and democracy.? Any attempt to free this convicted terrorist must be met with swift condemnation.?

Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., said the U.S. will never free the sheik.

?Omar Abdel-Rahman is a terrorist with American blood on his hands and he will serve the rest of his life in detention," he said.

A spokeswoman for the Egyptian consulate in New York declined to comment.? But NBC News Correspondent Aymen Mohyeldin, who was in Cairo for the speech, said Morsi went off script to make the comments and was likely making the statements for domestic consumption ? not to anger the United States.

?The Muslim Brotherhood, and Morsi now, are taking the position he be released on humanitarian extradition more so than overturning his conviction,? Moyeldin said. Muslim Brotherhood leaders are saying Morsi does not plan to repeat the comments in his address Saturday and has condemned acts of terror against the West in the past.

Rahman is in ailing health in a North Carolina prison. A Justice Department spokeswoman declined to comment, except to say the "Blind Sheik" remains behind bars.

Last call: Wipe Trojan before 'Internet doomsday'

1 hr.

In 10 days, there's a chance you will not be able to access the Internet on your personal computer. No email, no Facebook, no Google, no Twitter ? nothing.

This potentially dire situation is due to the nasty DNSChanger Trojan, and the fateful date of July 9, on which the FBI is set to take all computers still infected with the malware offline for good. The date is being dubbed "Internet doomsday" for those who don't take action.

Launched by Estonian cybercriminals, the DNSChanger malware infected Windows PCs, Macs and routers across the world and enabled the crooks to hijack victims' Web traffic and reroute it to rigged sites.?After the FBI, in "Operation Ghost Click," busted the criminals last November, the FBI set up surrogate servers to keep the computers infected with the Trojan temporarily online so users could clean them. But on July 9, those surrogate servers are coming down.

[Will the FBI Shut Down My Computer? Questions and Answers]

This is bad news for anyone whose computer is still harboring the malware. According to a new report from Internet Identity, that unfortunate group, which at the time of the FBI sting was made up of 4 million computers and routers worldwide, still includes 12 percent of the Fortune 500.

In his Krebs on Security blog, researcher Brian Krebs cites a statistic from the DNSChanger Working Group, which estimates that more than 300,000 computers are still infected with the malware.

"That number is likely conservative," Krebs said. "The DCWG measures infections by Internet protocol (IP) addresses, not unique systems. Because many systems that are on the same local network often share the same IP address, the actual number of DNSChanger-infected machines is probably quite a bit higher than 300,000.

In the past few weeks, both Google and Facebook have undertaken notification campaigns?efforts to warn those who may still be infected with the Trojan. But if you didn't receive a warning, it doesn't mean you're in the clear.

There are ways to eradicate the DNSChanger from your system before July 9. Here's how, in three easy steps.

First, you'll need to change some settings on your computer. Click?here?for instructions on how to do so. That will make sure you're still able to get on the Internet when July 9 rolls around.

Step two is to run strong anti-virus software?that will clean up your computer. You'll probably have to pay for the software. Here's a list of?recommended anti-virus software?products.

The third step is to check your system again; if you're still seeing the Google alert, check the?DNS Changer Check-Up.

If you know your car might explode and crumble into a burning mass of parts in less than two weeks unless you got it serviced, you'd probably get it serviced, right? Do the same with your computer.

RIM turnaround tougher, stock hits 9-year low

NEW YORK (AP) ? The maker of the BlackBerry is running out of time.

Research In Motion Ltd.'s stock fell to a nine-year low Friday, a day after the Canadian company said phones running its upcoming BlackBerry 10 operating system won't be available until after the holiday shopping season.

Sales of the once-pioneering BlackBerry phones, which now look ancient next to the latest iPhones and Android devices, fell 41 percent in the latest quarter and likely won't pick up again until new phones come out.

By then, it might be too late. When the new BlackBerrys go on sale in the first three months of 2013 ? assuming there won't be yet-another delay ? people will have even more choices:

? This fall, Apple Inc. is expected to release a new iPhone with an improved Siri virtual assistant. It promises a new mapping service that sports voice navigation.

? Samsung and other phone makers are continually selling new models that run Google's Android operating software. The next version of Android, expected in mid-July, will have improved search and photo sharing.

? Phones running a revamped version of Microsoft's Windows system are also coming this fall.

BlackBerrys were once a staple in corporate environments because of their reputation for security and reliability. People pulled them out to check email in restaurants, living rooms and vacation homes such that they became known as "CrackBerrys." When he became president, Barack Obama refused to part with his BlackBerry despite worries about complying with public-record laws.

But BlackBerrys lost their cachet when iPhones came along and demonstrated that smartphones could be good for more than email. People could now watch movies, play games, read books and update their Facebook statuses easily. Outside software programmers started spewing out apps to extend the devices' functionality and popularity.

RIM portrays BlackBerry 10 as its way of catching up. It promises the multimedia, Internet browsing and apps experience that customers now demand.

RIM unveiled it last October, long after BlackBerrys began to slip in stature. Analysts had hoped to see BlackBerry 10 phones by early 2012, but RIM said in December that they won't be available until late in the year because they needed a chipset that wasn't available yet. Now, RIM said the phones won't be out until 2013.

With yet another delay, BlackBerry loyalists may not be willing to wait longer. Already, the BlackBerry's U.S. market share has plummeted from 41 percent in 2007 to less than 4 percent in the first three months of 2012, according to research firm IDC.

"The possibility of a comeback is rapidly diminishing," analyst Steven Li at Raymond James said in a research note. He added that the delay also could discourage outside software developers from writing BlackBerry 10 apps that rival the thousands available for iPhones and Android devices.

Sterne Agee analyst Shaw Wu said RIM's main concern should be "more about staying alive. We believe the company needs to be careful with its cash or risk facing bankruptcy."

The company has hired J.P. Morgan and RBC Capital Markets to help evaluate various recovery plans, including opportunities to partner with other companies and license software. The company has said it's not actively looking to sell itself, but it wants to be prepared.

Most analysts have started looking at RIM not as a company with a future but as a collection of parts that could be split up and sold separately to the highest bidder. RIM's portfolio of patents is particularly valuable in a climate where Apple and other phone makers are suing each other over the originality of phone designs and techniques.

RIM disclosed the BlackBerry 10 delay after the market closed Thursday as part of its quarterly earnings report. RIM's stock fell $1.74, or 19 percent, to close Friday at $7.39. That's the lowest price since September 2003. RIM did not return messages for comment Friday.

RIM's revenue fell 43 percent to $2.8 billion in the latest quarter, which ended June 2. Besides selling fewer phones, RIM tended to sell less-profitable models and had to offer discounts in the U.S. to stem consumer defections. RIM also had a higher proportion of subscribers on lower-cost plans, meaning less revenue from email, messaging and other services offered through those devices.

Gross profit margin in the quarter was 28 percent, compared with 44 percent a year ago and 33 percent in the previous quarter. To make up for that, RIM is looking to cut $1 billion in expenses this year, which will include a 30 percent reduction in its workforce.

During a conference call with analysts Thursday, RIM CEO Thorsten Heins said the company is expecting the next several quarters to be "very challenging."

Analysts at Nomura Securities said management appears to be pushing price cuts as a way to keep people buying BlackBerrys until the new system "comes in to save the day in 2013." But that strategy, he said, is one that "has a very low likelihood of success and that will most likely drive RIM into irrelevance."

Euro deal leaves deep divisions, lingering questions

Markus Schreiber / AP

German Chancellor Angela Merkel addresses lawmakers on the decisions of the EU summit at the parliament Bundestag in Berlin Friday, June 29. Chancellor Merkel faces a vote on the eurozone's new permanent rescue fund and the EU's fiscal co-pact. Merkel is reflected in the windows of a visitors balcony at the plenary hall.

By John W. Schoen, Senior Producer

A "breakthrough" agreement by European leaders?desperate to show the world they haven?t run out of ideas to save the eurozone?is short on details and does little more than buy time, analysts said Friday.

And after 21 summit meetings convened to?head off the looming breakup of Europe?s common currency and the continent's ongoing downward economic spiral, it is not clear how much time the deal?to shore up wobbly banks will buy.

?Every time they come out with something, it seems to lasts an increasingly smaller amount of time,? said Guy Wolf, a market strategist at commodities broker Marex Specton in London. ?I don't see anything in this current statement that makes me think someone will go and build a factory in Spain. And that's what we're really talking about.?

With Greece?s economy in ruins, Spain?s banks on life support and Italy?s borrowing costs rising, eurozone leaders broke out the fire hoses at their latest meeting in Brussels.

The new measures, hammered out after 14 hours of contentious talks that pitted Rome and Madrid against Europe's paymaster Berlin, amounted to a willingness to bend the European Union?s existing aid rules to shore up failing banks and try to bring down rising borrowing costs that are strangling the weaker?economies.

Under the latest plan, Europe?s two bailout funds will be allowed to buy bank shares directly instead of channeling the money through member governments. But the agreement included little detail on just how the new measures would be implemented.

It?s not clear, for example, who will decide which banks get funds, how much they?ll get or what conditions will be imposed in return for bailouts. Failed banks would be taken over by the European Central Bank, which currently has no system in place to do so.

With expectations for the summit so low, ?financial markets staged a ?relief? rally after the deal was announced. The euro rose sharply against the dollar and yields on Spanish and Italian debt fell sharply. The Dow Jones industrial average was up more than 220 points in midday trading.

?We have avoided an Armageddon scenario ? at least for the summer,? said Tai Hui, chief economist at?Standard Chartered?Bank.

But the agreement does little to bridge the widening political and economic divisions that continue to threaten Europe?s common currency and economic future.

The summit was supposed to have addressed Greece?s urgent need for assistance. Leaders of the newly formed Athens government, facing insolvency within weeks, have vowed to roll back German-imposed austerity measures that were agreed to by the former Athens government in return for aid.

A volatile confrontation between Athens and Berlin was averted when Greece?s new prime minister last week cancelled his trip for health reasons, and the newly appointed finance minister was replaced, also for health reasons. The long-running standoff between Greece and Germany remains unresolved. ?

With Greece off the agenda, attention at the two-day Brussels summit turned to the more imminent crisis in Spain, which recently asked for a bank bailout that could reach 100 billion euros ($125 billion).?

Some economists believe the bank bailout may be a preamble to a wider bailout of the Spanish government, which has recently seen its credit ratings slashed and borrowing costs rise to unsustainable levels.?While some economists and eurozone officials believe the impact of Greece's departure from the common currency could be managed, Spain's much-larger economy and pool of outstanding debt poses a greater risk. ??

The fallout from Spain has also pushed up borrowing costs for the Italian government, Europe?s third-largest economy and most heavily indebted eurozone country.

Friday?s summit agreement was aimed at calming investors who have been fleeing Spanish banks and government bonds. But it remains to be seen how much investor confidence the proposed bank backstop measures can restore in Spanish and Italian government bonds.

?There are a number of uncertainties about the conditions applied to (the backstop) and the rating agency?s reaction to countries applying for outside help,? said Philippe Bodereau, head of European credit research at PIMCO.

The summit brought into sharper focus the deepening divisions among European leaders, as Germany increasingly finds itself cast in the role of Europe?s financial guarantor. As the Europe?s largest economy enjoys relative prosperity ? thanks in part to massive capital flight into German banks and government bonds ? German voters have grown increasingly wary of further calls to commit their hard-earned savings to bail out their neighbors. ?

Following this week's summit, some reports suggested that German Chancellor Angela Merkel appeared to soften her steadfast opposition to guaranteeing other country?s debts. But with voter resistance to the idea running high back home, Germany?s leaders can ill-afford to?commit?to paying the bills of other euro zone governments.

?Germany has no good options,? said Wolf. ?They either pay an incredibly large bill when the euro area breaks up or sign themselves up to a perpetual series of transfers to the rest of the euro area. So it's not surprising that they are stalling that decision for as long as possible. Because no politician wants to be saddled with that answer.?

CNBC's Michelle Caruso-Cabrera reports the latest details on the agreement reached at the EU Summit.

Post-Ruling, Obama Takes GOP Line on Jobs as Romney Vows Repeal

President Obama used one of the GOP?s favorite talking points against them in the wake of Thursday?s landmark Supreme Court decision upholding the Affordable Care Act.

Taking the podium in the White House less than half an hour after Mitt Romney issued his response to the ruling, Obama applauded the decision, reiterated the specifics of the reforms contained in the legislation, and said it was time to move on.

?What we can?t do is fight the battles of two years ago or go back to the way things were,? Obama urged. And then he said a version of something that GOP presidential candidates and politicians have been saying for over a year: that familiar refrain of ?Jobs, jobs, jobs.?

?Now?s the time to keep our focus on the most urgent challenge of our time,? Obama said. ?Putting people back to work, paying down our debt, and building an economy where people have the confidence that if they work hard they can get ahead.?

The GOP has hammered Obama endlessly for failing to focus on jobs. But Mitt Romney didn?t talk about jobs this morning. And Republicans haven?t really been talking about jobs today. They?ve been talking about the need to repeal Obamacare, and their renewed fervor to do it.

Reince Priebus, the GOP chair, tweeted a link to a newly-launched website, People v. Obamacare.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor was quick to set a timeline for the House to repeal the Affordable Care Act yet again. Expect that vote to come the week of July 9th.

Mitt Romney said the only recourse after today?s ruling was clear. ?If we want to replace Obamacare, we have to replace President Obama,? he said.

It?s a fantasy that the President and Democrats won?t have to continue to sell the Affordable Care Act to voters for the rest of the year (and beyond, if Obama wins re-election). But Obama?s remarks made it clear that his administration was prepared with a narrative in the event the law was upheld: make the party that says it?s number one priority is ?jobs, jobs, jobs,? look like the party that?s more interested in fighting yesterday?s battles.

Will voters buy it? That depends on the next few rounds of GDP and unemployment figures, as well as which party wins the message war convincing Americans whether the Affordable Care Act is good policy or bad policy.

Republicans are out to win that war, and they?ve been aggressive so far. But pouncing could backfire if it looks like they've taken their eyes off the ball. The GOP gave President Obama a few lemons, and today, he made lemonade.

(AP) ? Facing weekend deadlines for action, congressional leaders have agreed to deals overhauling the nation's transportation programs without a Republican provision forcing approval of the proposed Keystone XL oil pipeline, and avoiding a doubling of interest rates for new student loans, congressional officials said Wednesday.

The agreements underscored the pressures both parties face to avoid angry voters and embarrassing headlines in the run-up to this November's presidential and congressional elections. Letting road-building programs grind to a halt during an economic downturn would be a blow to the image of lawmakers, while Democrats and Republicans alike seemed eager to avoid enraging millions of students and their parents by boosting the costs of college loans.

In contrast, enactment of the transportation measure would create or save 3 million jobs, said Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., chief sponsor of the Senate version of the bill. And the student loan measure would spare an estimated 7.4 million students who get subsidized Stafford loans beginning July 1 ? this Sunday ? from facing $1,000 in higher interest costs over the lives of their loans, which typically take over a decade to repay.

Congressional leaders were planning to combine the highway and student loan measures into a single bill to reduce potential procedural obstacles and hoped for final approval this week. Lawmakers would then leave Washington for a July 4 recess.

The two-year highway bill would prevent the government's authority to spend money on highways, bridges and transit systems from lapsing on Saturday, along with its ability to collect gasoline and diesel taxes. With both parties checkmating each other's top priorities this campaign season, Democrats and Republicans say the highway measure will be Congress' top job-creation initiative until the November elections.

"This is the jobs bill for the 112th Congress," said House Transportation Committee Chairman John Mica, R-Fla.

As the price for the highway agreement, lawmakers said Republicans dropped a House-approved provision requiring the government to approve the proposed Keystone pipeline, which is to move oil from western Canada to Texas' Gulf Coast.

Pipeline approval ? which prompted a veto threat from President Barack Obama ? has been a top goal this election year for the GOP, which has pitted its claims that it would create jobs against environmental worries that it could accelerate global warming and endanger Midwestern water supplies.

Republicans also agreed to abandon language blocking the Environmental Protection Agency from regulating the toxic ash generated by coal-fired power plants, lawmakers said. The ash is used as an ingredient in some types of cement.

In return, House Republicans won Senate concessions that would halve the time allowed for environmental reviews for highway projects, and squeeze money for bike paths and pedestrian safety projects by forcing them to compete with other transportation projects, said congressional aides and environmental lobbyists.

The bill would give states more flexibility in spending federal money, impose new safety regulations and expand a federal loan guarantee program to encourage private investments in transportation projects.

Despite the measure's short-term impact, the bill delays for two years decisions about a long-term funding scheme for highway and transit programs. Gas and diesel taxes no longer cover the cost of transportation programs and are forecast to bring in less revenue as the fuel efficiency of cars and trucks increases.

President Barack Obama spent weeks this spring touring college campuses and lambasting Republicans for not pushing a freeze on student loan rates through Congress. GOP presidential challenger Mitt Romney, looking to avoid handing Obama an issue, quickly said he favored the interest rate extension and congressional GOP leaders did too, though some Republicans think the government should not spend money to keep loan rates low.

The student loan pact would keep today's 3.4 percent interest rates on subsidized Stafford loans from doubling for new loans approved beginning on Sunday, an automatic increase that Congress enacted five years ago to save money. If they did double, it would affect 7.4 million students expected to get the loans over the 12 months beginning July 1, adding $1,000 to the interest costs of the typical borrower over each loan's life.

The tentative agreement was on the same package Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., had said Tuesday that they had shaken hands on, said a congressional Republican who spoke on condition of anonymity to describe the measure's status. McConnell said he expected the House to accept the agreement.

"We're moving, I think, towards an agreement on a transportation bill that would also include a one-year fix on the student loan rate increase," Boehner told reporters early Wednesday after meeting privately with House Republicans.

Some GOP lawmakers at that meeting said Boehner seemed to favor the emerging deal and said it received a positive reception.

"The general sense is there's a tremendous amount of support for getting it done," said Rep. Tom Reed, R-N.Y. "That's what's going to drive it across the finish line."

The two parties spent the last several weeks dueling over how to pay for the $6 billion cost of the student loan bill.

Under the agreement, the government would raise $5 billion by changing how companies calculate the money they have to set aside for pensions. That change would make their contributions more consistent from year to year and in effect reduce their payments initially, lowering the tax deductions they receive for their pension contributions.

Another $500 million would come from increasing the fees companies pay for the government to insure their pension plans, linking those fees to inflation.

In addition, $1.2 billion would be saved by limiting federal subsidies of Stafford loans to six years for undergraduates.

Lawmakers decided to wrap in another Senate bill to reauthorize the national flood insurance program for five years.

The program, which provides federally backed insurance for 5.6 million households and businesses, many in flood-prone areas, has gone deeply into the red from claims after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The Senate legislation would try to return the program to fiscal soundness through such steps as allowing premium increases and reducing subsidies for vacation homes.

The Real Housewives of New York City Recap: Diss-Invite

Just when I thought this season of The Real Housewives of New York City might end up being the new housewives versus the old, "Diss-Invite" turned that fear upside down.

It's actually become all of the housewives against Ramona. Who saw that coming? So let's break it all down in our THG +/- recap.

First off, what do you think of the new housewives? When the opening conversation between Aviva and Carole consisted of what they'd eaten for breakfast…Aviva ate a hard boiled egg and Carole a sugar cookie for those who missed that fascinating tidbit…I thought about going to bed early. Minus 12.

Are these women just that boring or do I need to get some more sleep?

The Real Housewives of NY Season 5 Cast

When Ramona showed up with gifts I was surprised by Aviva's comments. I realized that Ramona's pimping her own skin care line but it was still nice of her to hand out presents. Minus 5 to Aviva for the sarcasm.

Ramona's searching for Heather haters but it didn't seem to be working. As both Ramona and Heather talk too much a talking intervention was proposed. Wait. Would we still have a show if they all shut up?

Where was Sonja during lunch.  Well, she blew off Ramona to go hang out with arch enemy Luann. Now that's trouble. Minus 8. It simply wasn't nice to cancel on one friend in favor of another. Plus Luann did her best to stir up trouble between these two friends and it seemed to be working.

On a side not for Sonja…what's up with her intern/personal assistant/indentured servant? That whole situation is just plain weird.

After lunch Carole and her friend Tripp went and tried to blend in with the Occupy Wall Street crowd. Plus 10 for realizing that they were part of the 1%. Nice to know they could still mingle with the masses.

Second side note of the night. Plus 7 to Carole for calling out Luann's habit of royal name dropping. It's simply pretentious nonsense and it grows old fast.

Minus 12 because the Heather/Ramona summit was downright painful to watch. I could only imagine how uncomfortable it was to be a part of. Couldn't they just admit they don't like one another and move on? Of course what fun would that be?

The elephant in the room was that every other housewife had been invited on Heather's trip to London except Ramona. In the end, it's Heather's trip and she can invite whomever she wants but the awkwardness grows the longer she goes without mentioning it. If she simply told Ramona she didn't have enough rooms for more guests…well, yes that would still sound lame but at least it's something.

Plus 10 to Sonja for standing up to Ramona for a change. I understood that Ramona wanted Sonja to make a stand and choose her side but wasn't that just a little bit junior high of her. Sonja's allowed to have her own friends.

Minus 15 to Ramona for making a scene at Sonja's party. She certainly did her best to turn it into the Ramona show. Then she called her friend an airhead and stormed out in a huff.

So do you think Luann and Heather are recruiting for the Ramona Haters Club? Whose side are you on and who do you think will end up going to London?

Project Butter improves Android 4.1's speed to a silky-smooth 60FPS

Project Butter

As part of its unveiling of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, Google has unveiled Project Butter, a major effort to squash Android's frequent problems with device lag, as well as Systrace to help diagnose performance. Project Butter lets the CPU and graphics run in parallel, rather than crash into each other, and has a big impact on both real and perceived speed: the entire interface runs at 60 frames per second on sufficiently fast hardware. Graphics are now triple-buffered to keep scrolling and transitions humming along, and the processor will swing into full gear the moment you touch the screen to keep input lag to a minimum. Systrace, in the meantime, will help developers stamp out what performance hiccups remain. The tracing tool will be a part of the Jelly Bean SDK, so every coder can get an app running in tip-top shape.

Ematic unwraps 9.7-inch eGlide Pro X tablet, widens its Android 4.0 horizons in a literal sense

Ematic unwraps 97inch eGlide Pro X tablet, widens its Android 40 horizons in a literal sense

Ematic has a tendency to release a lot of tablets, so what's one more? In the case of the eGlide Pro X, quite a bit. The newly shipping model uses a 9.7-inch, 4:3 ratio display that will be quite familiar to some, but which is still quite rare in the narrower, 16:10-happy world of Android 4.0. It's thankfully more than just superficials that get the boost. We'd say that the Pro X is just that slightly more pro than its XL Pro ancestor through a faster 1.2GHz processor and a doubled 8GB of built-in storage. A microSD slot, HDMI, Kobo's book app, and Ematic's own Google-replacing software all show their familiar faces. The $220 price currently makes this latest of eGlides a good bargain, but we have a hunch you might want to wait until Google I/O -- you never know what you might get.

Various arthritic ailments could affect a person. You have to know that this problem can be devastating and this could affect your normal activities. To be able to defend yourself from this problem, the best thing which can be done is to understand the safety measures that you can take to handle the indicators of arthritis in fingers. Then again, if you are unacquainted with the nature of the problem, you can check out this link for further help. The different strategies that you can resort to to avoid arthritis in fingers include the following:

* Exercise: when arthritis pain afflicts the fingers, surely you will have trouble moving it. Then again, experts are convinced that immobility can only intensify the condition because it only cause the joints to stiffen more. Because of this, it is best to opt for workout routines that can help you improve the mobility in your fingers and prevent the condition from damaging the joints further. When affected by arthritis in fingers, it is recommended to make sure that the fingers are stretched often since retaining them in a single position can only exacerbate the condition.

* Medication: based on studies, the treatment for arthritis in fingers should depend on the severity of the pain and the overall health condition of the affected individual. While searching for remedy for the disorder, it is essential to consult the physician. Various OTC medications for inflammation are readily available, such as Advil and Aleve and prescription drugs including Celebrex. These are all useful in minimizing the pain indicators of arthritis in fingers. Injections with numbing agents could also be used to alleviate acute pain but this should be applied under the guidance of a healthcare expert to avoid any complications. Once the fingers are numb, braces can be utilized to prevent the movement that triggers the pain. The usage of splints for an extended time, however, needs to be avoided to prevent the occurrence of muscle atrophy.

* Surgery: in case regular workout routines and treatments cannot assist you on how to steer clear of arthritis in fingers, medical doctors might point to surgical procedures for the problem. The purpose of the surgery treatment is to preserve the joint by rebuilding it. Then again, in case the damaged joint is beyond repair and the fingers are immobilized, bone fusion may be important. This is where the worn-out joints are eliminated to take out the main source of pain. Then again, the finger with merged joints may not be moved for good. Joint replacement can be another choice when searching for treatment against the problem and to be able to regain correct joint movements. The joints will be substituted using a synthetic material, just as the ones being employed for knee and hip replacement techniques. For other instances of arthritis, it is better to speak with your medical doctor for details. It is also needed to learn more about what causes arthritis to avoid the condition effectively. Note that that medical diagnosis ought to be done when preliminary symptoms are experienced in order to utilize the suitable treatment solution, avoid the problem from aggravating and avoid further damage to the joints.
