Mpasua Msonobari chose to write in his native language, Swahili, because of various reasons. Another one is ?Swahili Phrasebook ? How to survive using Swahili? This publication covers all the phrases and words that you will need to survive using the Swahili language. It gives simple and interesting illustrations. This one has sold already hundreds of thousands copies and goes for only 20 USD.
?Mteremko Mgumu? This is a Swahili novel which if directly translated means a steep downhill. This addresses the myriads of life which we have to go through in extremely different scenarios to those we expected.
?Jipende mwanamke? This is a reproductive health publication which figuratively bring out the stumbling blocks of life. It addresses the myriads of reproductive health related complications especially to women like fibroids and severe crumps. He says NGOs really liked this since it demystified some of the things that women had thought was witch craft in a language that they understood and enjoyed too.
One of the major challenges of authoring a Swahili book is that you have to strike a balance between using the correct Swahili that will stand the test of time and making the content of what you are authoring to be as realistic and as appealing as possible to the reader at the same time. Needless to say that so many scholars and fanatics of the language have flooded the market with Swahili publications that are below the standards of Swahili grammar and even the general appeal to the reader of the language.?
